A drone struck a residential block in Galați, eastern Romania, tonight, hitting an apartment on the tenth floor and setting it ablaze, reports suggest the drone was likely a Russian Shahed-type, according to on the ground reports. Romanian authorities issued a Ro-Alert went at 1:53am, warning citizens of the incoming drone. At least two people suffered minor injuries and two residents escaped the burning flat before emergency crews arrived. NATO has scrambled jets over the city in response.
The drone was likely one of the Russian regime’s, as shahed type drones are not operated by the Ukrainian military. The drone was likely part of a larger swarm aimed at Ukraine’s Danube ports a few kilometres across the water and brought down instead on a NATO member’s housing. It is not the first time Galați has been hit, and as before, the jets went up and nothing was brought down.
The Romanian government has announced an investigation to determine the origin of the drone.
This is a developing story, updates to follow as they come to us.
