Good morning readers!
Thankfully, we did not wake up to the horrors of another broad attack on a sovereign nation today, but we still have many of the pieces of the puzzle to put together from the horrific U.S. assault on Venezuela yesterday.
The USA’s ally in the Middle East is also in our spotlight this morning, as there are reports of a number of attacks, including at least 4 fatalities and video evidence of the IDF dropping a bomb in Gaza with a drone, as the genocidal nation continues to dismiss the concepts of both ceasefires and international law.
Elsewhere, we have updates on British and French attacks against ISIS in Syria and more, so let’s dive straight into today’s updates.
Israel continues striking inside Gaza “yellow line
Israel carried out strikes inside the so-called “yellow line” both yesterday and again today, directly violating the boundaries set out under the existing ceasefire framework. Video evidence circulating from Gaza shows Israeli drones dropping munitions well within the restricted zone. These strikes come amid hundreds of documented Israeli ceasefire violations since November, reinforcing the reality that the ceasefire exists largely on paper while Israel continues to act with near-total impunity.
While casualty figures are difficult to optain during the continued media blackout in Gaza, we are aware of at least 4 deaths in seperate incidents yesterday, and a further 3 murdered by Israeli forces today, including a 15-year-old child.
Beyond the attacks, Israel’s starvation of Gaza continues into another year, as the ban on aid groups takes hold, preventing groups like Doctors Without Borders and others from delivering aid inside the Palestinian territories, including both Gaza and the West Bank.
The Rafah border crossing, which Israel agreed to open during ceasefire negotiations, remains closed, with no serious expectation for a change in this, and absolutely no international pressure on Israel to open the border.
Nicolas Maduro’s trial takes shape
Until about 32 hours before writing this, Nicolas Maduro was serving as Venezuela’s president, him and his wife is now sitting in cells in the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, following the illegal attack and kidnapping by U.S. forces.
Maduro was brought to New York in a trip that was specifically designed for the media, surrounded by dozens of federal agents as he was coming off the plane, he did the perp walk flanked by the same federal agents, with ample access for the camera’s. In one shot, Maduro wished the camera a Happy New Year, very likely noticing the propaganda campaign he was now a part of.
The judge chosen to oversee the case against the former Venezuelan president is Alvin Hellerstein, who is marred by his controversial track record around his 9/11 cases, where he aggressively defended Saudi Arabia from any cases brought against them from families of victims of the terror attack. Maduro is expected to face trial in a New York federal courtroom.
The charges brought against the former head of state are; narco-terrorism conspiracy, cocaine importation conspiracy, possession and conspiracy to possess machine guns and destructive devices and further allegations that Maduro used state resources and authority to facilitate drug trafficking and corruption for decades. It is highly unlikely that he will be found innocent in any of the charges brought against him.
UK and France strike ISIS in Syria
The UK and France announced that they conducted airstrikes again ISIS targets in Syria yesterday, reportedly striking an underground weapons storage facility.
The strikes were carried out near Palmyra in central Syria, with both governments claiming the target was a fortified, underground ISIS facility used for weapons storage and logistics. British and French officials say the operation was a pre-emptive move to disrupt remaining ISIS cells and prevent regrouping, despite the group having lost territorial control years ago.
No evidence has been presented publicly to justify the timing of the strike, nor has there been any clear explanation of the legal basis for conducting airstrikes inside Syrian territory without the consent of Damascus, once again raising questions about Western military operations that bypass international law under the banner of counter-terrorism. This may all change if the Syrian government announce they gave approval for the attack.
UN Security Council to discuss U.S. violations
The UN Security Council is set to meet following the United States’ attack on Venezuela, after South Africa formally requested an urgent session to address what it described as a clear violation of sovereignty and the UN Charter. The meeting is expected to centre on the legality of the U.S. operation, the absence of Security Council authorisation, and the broader precedent being set by unilateral regime-change actions carried out under flimsy justification. Several states are reportedly seeking to force a public accounting from Washington, even as the U.S. retains veto power over any substantive outcome.
Unfortunately, due to the veto power of the USA, there is unlikely to be any resolution from the meeting. The world will run again into the roadblock of the veto-weilding nations being the major violators of international law yet again, very similar to the position we had when the Russian invasion of Ukraine began.
USA threatens more countries
The United States seemed to expand its list of targets yesterday, directly following the assault on Venezuela, issuing direct and indirect threats toward Colombia, Mexico, and Cuba. With the current regime, it is not clear what is rhetoric and what is serious, and when it comes to the real possibility of attacks on sovereign nations, we must assume these are serious threats, based on all the evidence we have to go on, with U.S. strikes in Venezuela, Iran, Nigeria and Syria already occuring in Trump’s first year of his second term.
In parallel, Katie Miller, wife of Stephen Miller of the Trump regime, openly threatened Greenland in a deranged social media post. Greenland is a semi-autonomous territory of Denmark, and absolutely intends to remain so. The threat came in the form of a map of Greenland, wrapped in the American flag, with the caption of ‘Soon.’ Someone told her that this was okay to post, and that someone is likely a member of the violent Trump regime. This must not go ignored on the international stage.
North Korea launches ballistic missiles
For our final update for this morning, we take a look at North Korea, who launched their first ballistic missiles in about 8 weeks, with a series of missiles crashing into the Sea of Japan, just outside Japan’s EEZ.
The last confirmed ballistic missile launches took place in late November 2025, and the gap since then does not reflect restraint or de-escalation. Pyongyang’s missile programme has remained active and intact throughout, with launches occurring when the regime deems the timing politically or strategically useful, rather than in response to any external pressure or diplomatic progress.
