Israel Kills 51 In 24 Hours As It Continues To Violate The Lebanon Ceasefire

At least 430 killed by Israel during the "ceasefire" period

An Israeli strike targeted the Lebanese town of Bayt al-Sayyad

The Lebanese Health Ministry recorded at least fifty killed in twenty-four hours of Israeli strikes across the south of the country. The UN Refugee Agency reported earlier this month that at least 380 people had been killed in Lebanon since the ceasefire took effect on April 17. Yesterday's fifty-one brings the count past four hundred and thirty, with 2,869 killed since Israel ripped up the previous ceasefire agreement on March 2.

In Saksakiyeh, a town in the Sidon district, an Israeli airstrike on a residential building killed eight members of a single displaced family, a married couple, three of their children, their six-month-old grandchild, an uncle, and a grandmother. The family had fled Jibchit a week earlier, moving north to escape the strikes. Saksakiyeh was not on the regime’s evacuation list. The Israeli military said it had targeted Hezbollah militants operating from the building, and acknowledged “reports of harm to uninvolved civilians” still under review.

A Syrian man and his twelve-year-old daughter were riding a motorcycle through Nabatieh when an Israeli drone struck them. They survived the first strike and tried to flee. The drone struck again and killed him. We have a name for hitting the same target twice to kill rescuers and survivors. It is a double-tap, it is documented Israeli practice in Gaza, in Lebanon, in every theatre the regime operates in, and it is a war crime.

Vehicle strikes south of Beirut killed four. A strike on the village of Bourj Rahhal killed three. The Israeli military says on their official Telegram channel that they have hit eighty-five “Hezbollah targets” in twenty-four hours, a claim not backed up by a shred of evidence, and countered by the number of civilians killed in the 24 hours in question. Hezbollah, for its part, launched retaliatory drones that wounded three Israeli reservists, one seriously.

Israeli ceasefire violations have now gone past the 500 mark, with 220 Hezbollah ceasefire violations, almost all of Hezbollah’s violations have been in response to Israeli strikes, however, it is clear that the ceasefire is not in effect thanks to Israel kicking off a wave of attacks, which forced Hezbollah into their responses. The 24 hours of attacks we point to in this article, seem to be a point of pride for the Israeli military, as they have released the below video cataloguing many of the attacks.

The ceasefire was announced on April 17. It is the same agreement, in substance, that was offered on April 7, the U.S.-Iran deal which Israel denied they were subjected to, despite authorising the USA to negotiate on their behalf. The morning after the 7th, Israel showed the world they would not obey the initial ceasefire by launching its most devastating single day of bombardment on Lebanon, killing at least 357 people, launching over 100 attacks in just a 10 minute window, in what is now called Lebanon’s “Black Wednesday.” Eight days later it accepted essentially the same terms.

A second round of U.S.-mediated Israel-Lebanon talks is scheduled for Washington on May 14 and 15. The talks are described as building “a framework for lasting peace and security arrangements.” The framework, three weeks in, looks like this: fifty dead in a day, a family of eight in a building never warned, a child orphaned on a roadside, all while the Israeli government can openly brag about the bombings due to the lack of scrutiny in the world press.

This is what the ceasefire with Israel looks like, unless of course, you're a country with the ability to strike back. Israel has not broken the ceasefire with Iran, while they continue to bomb Gaza and Lebanon.
