Donald Trump's Unprovoked War is Expanding
The USA and Israel’s war in the Middle East is in its third day, and the war is expanding to include other regional and international forces already. The U.S. President, who campaigned for his election on a promise of ending U.S. wars abroad, has repeatedly reminded American citizens that the public can expect to see more casualties amongst their own ranks, as at least six U.S. service members have already been killed, and at least three U.S. planes have been downed, the latter in an apparent friendly fire incident. According to U.S. law, the president alone cannot launch a war, and must not play a part in the assassination of foreign leaders, both of which have been summarily dismissed by Jeffrey Epstein’s best friend.
While we saw the initial wave of attacks in Iran, which killed the country’s leader, as well as murdered over 165 in an attack on a school, where the majority of victims were young girls between the ages of 7 and 12 years of age. The strike has rightly garnered much attention, but neither of the countries responsible have admitted that their rockets were the one behind the strike. We know that the attack on the school was the fault of the U.S.-Israeli strikes, as the school came under fire before Iran’s response to the attack had begun.
Since the initial strike, the intel coming out of Iran has slowed down as the regime in the country has shut down the internet as part of their counterattack, while some footage has come out, it has been very difficult to get a picture on how the attacks inside Iran are unfolding. Footage of attacks from inside Iran may be hard to come by, but the same is not true for counter attacks in the region. We have seen a wave of counterattacks across the entire Middle East, as Iran strikes back against Israeli and American military assets in the region.
The Iranian military has launched counterattacks on U.S. military bases, and the countries that host them, including strikes in Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Oman, and the UAE. To be clear not one of these countries launched direct strikes on Iran, instead, they are paying the price of hosting American military infrastructure on their soil, infrastructure that was used to wage an illegal war on a sovereign nation that, as the Pentagon has now admitted to Congress in closed-door briefings, had no plans to strike first. Trump’s stated justification — that Iran posed an imminent preemptive threat — was directly contradicted by his own military. Senate Intelligence Vice Chair Mark Warner, who received the briefing, did not mince his words, highlighting that this is a war of choice.
That choice is now costing everyone. Oil prices have surged by around 8-10%, and European gas markets have spiked by over 20%, as tanker traffic through the Strait of Hormuz has ground to a near standstill, when normally roughly a fifth of the world’s oil would flow through daily. The people who will feel this first are not the politicians who launched this war, but ordinary families already struggling with the cost of living worldwide.
Regional partners of the USA have announced their willingness to join the attack, should Iran continue to attack airbases in their countries. Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE have warned Iran that they reserve the right to retaliate against attacks on their territory. The legalities of such an eventuality sits in a grey area, as the USA has either launched attacks from their bases in the countries, or in the case of the UAE, their military base in the country acts as the headquarters for the attack on Iran.
France, Germany and the UK have also warned that they would be willing to respond to any attacks on their assets in the region, while the UK has also announced that the USA would be allowed to strike missiles in storage an in launchers from their bases in the region. None of the three E3 nations have condemned the USA and Israel for their attack, but all have condemned Iran’s response to the illegal attack on their territory.
Outside of military expansion, the unprovoked war against Iran is having other effects around the region and beyond. In Gaza, the citizens see a restart of Israel’s illegal blockade of the territory, as Israel has closed the border crossings into the Strip, including to humanitarian aid workers, a fact that most media sources seem unwilling to discuss.
Outside of the Middle East, we are seeing how the USA’s NATO partners are responding to the attacks. As mentioned, the UK, France and Germany have offered support for the illegal attack, however, fellow NATO members Spain and Türkiye have condemned the attacks, calling them a breach of international law. Pedro Sánchez, Prime Minister of Spain has gone further, reminding citizens that it is possible to oppose the actions of the Iranian regime, while also opposing unprovoked military action against them.
Day 4 of the war will likely reveal a little more about how expansion of the conflict may proceed. The UK had initially denied the USA access to their military bases, now that they have changed their mind, many are asking if the UK will follow the USA all the way onto the battlefield like they have in prior wars in the Middle East. The condemnations of the attack are likely to grow, as the actions of the USA and Israel continue to bring havoc to the region and continue to drive up the cost of oil and gas around the world. The fate of the Palestinians is unknown, and with little media attention on the issue, it’s unclear if Israel will use their war on Iran to bring even more punishment for the Palestinians than it already has delivered.
