Israel has deployed white phosphorus munitions in Yahmar al-Shaqif in southern Lebanon in the last few minutes. This comes as Israel is clearly testing Iran’s willingness to hold to the red line set this morning, that attacks on Lebanon would be retaliated against.

White phosphorus munitions are illegal in warfare because they cannot distinguish between military targets and civilians, and because the suffering they inflict is considered excessive relative to any military necessity.

When deployed in or near populated areas, the weapon scatters burning material across a wide zone, igniting everything it touches. It burns at around 800 degrees Celsius, sticks to skin, and continues burning as long as it is exposed to air. Wounds re-ignite when bandages are removed.

There is no effective field treatment from these awful weapons, victims frequently die from organ failure caused by phosphorus absorption even when the burns themselves are survived. The use of white phosphorus in civilian areas is prohibited under Protocol III of the Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons, and its deployment in densely populated zones has been characterised by the UN and human rights organisations as a violation of international humanitarian law.

Reports on the ground, as well as photos and videos on social media, showed the unmistakable signatures of the illegal weapons. The reports circulated just before 4pm local time. This is not the first time Yahmar al-Shaqif has been targeted with the illegal munitions, with previous attacks noted in March and May of this year.

For most of the day, Israel held off on strikes in southern Lebanon, while their exchange of fire with Iran was ongoing. Iran announced the cessation of its retaliatory operations and issued an unambiguous ultimatum; any attack on Lebanon would be treated as an attack on Iran, met with an immediate and heavier missile response.

Within minutes of that announcement, Israel resumed strikes across southern Lebanon. No Iranian response came. So Israel escalated further, deploying white phosphorus on a civilian area. Iran has now closed its airspace, the same signal it gave before launching last night.

Israel has struck Lebanese territory, threatened Dahiyeh, and now deployed illegal weapons on civilian areas. All of this within hours of Iran drawing the clearest line it has drawn since this war began.

We have a word for what Israel is doing. It is provocation, deliberate and sequential, each step calculated to either break Iran's resolve or manufacture the conditions for the next escalation. Iran's airspace is closed. The next move is Netanyahu's.

Within one minute of publishing an article covering the end to fighting between Israel and Iran, Israel is setting the stage for a fresh exchange of fighting.

Israel has resumed heavy airstrikes on southern Lebanon within minutes of Iran announcing the cessation of its retaliatory operations, directly testing the new equation Tehran has placed on the table: any attack on Lebanon means missiles. Video shows scenes in Burj el-Shemali following these Israeli strikes.

Iran warned Israel that any attacks on Lebanon would be treated as an attack on Iran itself, and would come with retaliation. It’s clear Israel is testing how serious Iran are about that claim, just one day after they last tested an Iranian red line, which led to renewed hostilities.

A senior Israeli official confirmed to Channel 12 that Israel is halting attacks on Iran at Trump’s request. The southern Lebanon campaign, however, will continue “with full force in the coming days.” The official also threatened to bomb Beirut’s suburb Dahiyeh again if attacks on Israeli settlements continue, essentially asserting the right to be the only party permitted to strike civilian areas, on pain of striking more of them.

Until Israeli warplanes struck southern Lebanon this afternoon, we had recorded no Hezbollah rocket fire today. Immediately following the Israeli attack in the last few minutes, Hezbollah launched retaliatory strikes into Kiryat Shmona.

It is clear Israel wants war, there is no other way to read these actions. Israel is manufacturing the condition it needs to hit Beirut, if we are to believe the words shared by the Israeli official, we can expect this to trigger a chain reaction of responses.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian responded to the overnight exchange with a measured but unambiguous statement: “We will not retreat in the face of any threat. Diplomacy and defense are the two wings of national power; we have neither abandoned the field nor the negotiating table.”

Iran’s position is now a matter of public record. It has established a standing equation, warned of consequences, demonstrated its willingness to follow through, and announced a halt. Israel has responded by bombing Lebanon within the hour.

We are now in a situation where Israel will not stop bombing Lebanon, Iran promises it will not stop bombing Israel for bombing Lebanon and Israel will not stop bombing Lebanon for Iran bombing Israel.

Iran has now closed their airspace, signalling a new retaliation to Israel may be imminent.

The only route to peace is Israel halting their operations, but they have no desire to do so.

Iran’s military has announced the cessation of its retaliatory strikes on Israel, and in doing so has established what it describes as a new standing equation: any attack on Lebanon is equivalent to an attack on Iran, and will be met with an immediate missile response.

The Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters said its operation is complete, but the suspension is explicitly conditional. If Israel continues to violate the April 8 ceasefire by attacking southern Lebanon, Iran will respond by striking Israel directly, without warning. The ball is now in Netanyahu’s court, the war criminal must cease all military attacks in Lebanon or face further responses from Iran.

Israeli military activity in Lebanon and Gaza has slowed markedly since Iran began striking back on Sunday night. We have recorded a number of attacks in overnight and this morning, but nothing that comes close to the frequency of attacks seen previously.

In the last 18 hours, Iran fired 24 ballistic missiles at Israel across three waves; Israel struck nine Iranian air defense systems in western and central Iran in response, with Iranian sources putting targets hit at 15. The Houthis joined the exchange, firing one missile at Tel Aviv. Iran says all of its strikes landed, while Israel says all incoming missiles were intercepted.

Preliminary reports suggest both are dishonest in their accounts, as at least one successful strike had been reported last night, while a number of interceptions had been observed.

The exchange of fire was triggered by an Israeli attack on Beirut, which Iran explicitly warned against. The Khatam al-Anbiya command said Israel had crossed “all red lines” by continuing to strike Beirut’s southern suburbs and widen its offensive in southern Lebanon. The operation, it said, was carried out in support of “the oppressed people of Lebanon.”

The pause in fighting comes as the Israeli regime has also closed humanitarian aid into Gaza, where the genocide continues, leaving the enclave under total siege.

Trump, who publicly told Netanyahu not to retaliate against Iran’s initial strikes, posted on Truth Social that both sides want “an immediate ceasefire.” It is unknown if Trump’s influence had any effect on the decision, but it is highly unlikely as his demands have not been met, while Iran signalled it will not treat the USA as an honest broker.

Today’s record in Lebanon included an Israeli strike on the southern suburbs of Beirut, which the Israeli regime described as targeting “terrorist headquarters” under the personal direction of Netanyahu and Katz, however, Israel Army Radio described the attack as “symbolic” and noted that there was no specific target.

Iran responded to the Beirut strike, which they had promised to do, launching 10 missiles at northern Israel. In Gaza, Israeli forces struck another police station in Mawasi, just the latest in the targeted killings of police across Gaza.

Elsewhere in Khan Younis, another car was targeted by Israel killing at least 5, and hit a vehicle near Al-Buraq School in west Gaza City, killing at least 4. Israeli naval fire killed fisherman Mohammed Musa Abu Jiyab off the coast of Deir al-Balah.

Hezbollah’s strikes have been directed, with few exceptions, at Israeli military positions, vehicles, and personnel inside Lebanese territory. Israeli strikes have shown a consistent pattern of targeting civilian targets.

A senior Israeli official told Israeli Army Radio moments ago that launches from Iran toward Israeli territory constitute “a declaration of the renewal of war.”

This follows an Israeli airstrike on the southern suburbs of Beirut earlier today. Iran had warned explicitly that such a strike would trigger retaliation. The Israeli regime went ahead anyway, informing the USA before doing so, making Washington a knowing party to the provocation.

Ebrahim Rezaei, spokesperson for Iran’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, had warned on X: “We will deliver a decisive and painful response to the Zionist regime’s attack on Dahiyeh. Look at the sky over the occupied lands tonight.”

They meant it. Iranian airspace closed ahead of the launch, with IRIAF jets spotted over multiple cities and commercial flights diverted mid-route. Iraqi airspace was simultaneously abandoned by carriers. Flightradar showed the corridor empty before the first missile flew.

Israeli air defences are now active. Explosions have been heard over northeast Israel, consistent with interceptions. Reports 4-5 suggest missiles were launched at Haifa. The IDF claim all 5 missiles have been intercepted.

An Iranian official is signalling that a military response to today’s Israeli strike on Dahieh is imminent, and may come as early as tonight.

Ebrahim Rezaei, spokesperson for Iran’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, has issued a direct warning on X stating: “We will deliver a decisive and painful response to the Zionist regime’s attack on Dahiyeh. Look at the sky over the occupied lands tonight.”

Iran’s Supreme National Security Council has convened an emergency session, held in limited format with pre-planned instructions already issued, based on the principle of “unity of the Resistance fronts.” This is not a reactive deliberation. This implies a contingency plan was already in place in case of an Israeli assault on Beirut.

Iranian hacker group Handala has meanwhile warned residents of northern Israel to evacuate immediately, claiming target coordinates have been transferred to “missile units of the resistance front.”

This is consistent with Iran’s prior warning, issued when Israel first threatened Dahieh last week, that northern Israel would need to be evacuated to make way for Iranian strikes. Israel pulled back then. It did not pull back today.

Whether Iran follows through, we are likely about to find out.

Netanyahu and Katz claimed the strikes were in response to Hezbollah firing on Israeli territory, a claim that doesn’t stand up to scrutiny. Not only are Israel behind the vast majority of ceasefire violations in Lebanon, but our own ceasefire tracker consistently shows Hezbollah mostly target Israeli positions that are held illegally in southern Lebanon, while Israeli attacks are solely focused on civilian areas.

Iran had previously warned that northern Israel would face retaliation if Dahieh was hit. Iran has never withdrawn that warning. Whether it still holds, we are likely about to find out in the coming days. Iran’s previous warning stated that should this attack go ahead, the north of Israel would need to be evacuated to make way for Iranian strikes.

A virtual emergency session of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council has been called in response to the attack. The SNSC session is being held in a limited format, with reports indicating that pre-planned instructions have already been issued based on the principle of "unity of the Resistance fronts", suggesting Iran's response, if it comes, was mapped out in advance.

The IDF claims that they have assessed that Iran will not respond directly to the attack, showing that the fear of retaliation played a major role in the decision to launch the strike.

Israeli media have described the targeted operations room as empty at the time of the strike, with Yedioth Ahronoth calling the attack "symbolic." No evidence has been presented to support any of the IDF's claims. There is no reason to take them at their word.

Donald Trump had also warned Israel against striking Beirut, Israeli media are reporting that their military first got Washington’s permission before launching the strike.

Two civilians have been killed in the strike and 11 others injured. No Hezbollah operatives were reported killed. No Hezbollah operatives were reported killed.

Large-scale evacuations are currently underway in Beirut’s southern suburbs following the strike.

The Iraqi national football team arrived in Chicago on Saturday to prepare for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The U.S. regime welcomed them the way it welcomes most people arriving from the Middle East, with hours of detention, phone searches, and, in one case, sending someone back where they came from.

Aymen Hussein, the striker who scored the goal that ended Iraq’s 40-year wait for a World Cup, was held at O’Hare International Airport for nearly seven hours. No official reason has been given. Some sources have floated an identity mix-up, but lengthy and unexplained detentions are now a norm in Trump’s USA.

Hussein was eventually released and rejoined his teammates. The team’s photographer, Talal Salah, was not so fortunate. He was held for over ten hours, had his phone searched, and was denied entry to the country altogether. The Iraqi team will not be granted the permission to have their own photographer document their players at their own World Cup.

This is not an isolated incident. It is a pattern. Amnesty International warned in March that the regime’s “harsh, discriminatory, and potentially lethal immigration enforcement” posed the most serious danger to World Cup visitors. Fans from Côte d’Ivoire, Haiti, Iran, and Senegal are barred from travelling to watch their own national teams compete, unless they held valid U.S. visas before January 1, 2026. Iran’s team spent months fearing their inclusion was at risk entirely, Trump insinuated that their players’ safety could not be guaranteed on U.S. soil, visas for key federation officials were denied, and they were only cleared to participate at the last minute. The tournament promises, in FIFA’s words, to be “safe, welcoming and inclusive.” It is clear at this point that those three adjectives only apply to those the USA wants to grant them to.

Iraq’s path to this tournament was already extraordinary. Their coach, Graham Arnold, spent weeks stranded in the UAE after U.S. airstrikes on Iran closed regional airspace. Players and staff were unable to obtain visas in time for playoff matches. The team arrived despite everything. The regime’s response was to put their star player in a room for seven hours and send their photographer home.

The USA should not be hosting this tournament. It is run by a regime that has spent the past year terrorising immigrant communities, waging war across the world, and making clear that certain passport holders are presumed suspects until proven otherwise. What happened to Aymen Hussein and Talal Salah at O’Hare on Saturday is not an accident of sorts. This is the USA acting as the USA acts in Donald Trump’s second term.

There were warnings that this would happen. FIFA ignored them. The World Cup starts in four days.

The Israeli regime bombed a wedding celebration in Gaza City on Saturday, killing at least eight people and wounding 15 more, Al Jazeera’s correspondent reporting on the attack from inside the Gaza Strip.

Two missiles struck tents set up for the wedding. The shrapnel did not stop there. Al Jazeera’s Hani Mahmoud reported that projectiles tore through the surrounding area at high speed, into a school next door being used as a displacement shelter packed with civilian families. Women and children are believed to be among the dead, while the toll is expected to rise.

Casualties have been transferred to al-Shifa Hospital.

This is the second wedding-related killing in Gaza today. Earlier this morning, Muhand Othman Farwana was killed in a separate Israeli airstrike in Khan Younis, hours before he was due to marry.

The Gaza Center for Human Rights documented 534 Palestinians killed between January 1 and June 5 of this year, nearly seven every 48 hours, under a ceasefire agreement that the Israeli regime has now violated more than 900 times since it took effect last October.

Israeli soldiers shot and killed seven-month-old Sam Fahd Abu Haikal on Friday evening near Hebron in the occupied West Bank. His parents were seriously wounded in the same shooting.

A single bullet struck the infant in the jaw, traversed his face, and hit his mother. His father, Fahd Abdul Aziz Abu Haikal, a lecturer at Bethlehem University, was shot in the hand. The family had been travelling from Bethlehem to visit relatives in Hebron.

The family provided a video of the innocent child onto the Quds news network, showing the infant in a walker.

The baby’s grandmother said they were driving near Checkpoint 17 when they spotted Israeli military vehicles, stopped the car, and shots were fired toward them, which they initially believed were warning shots.

The IDF said soldiers perceived a vehicle accelerating toward them and fired single shots. It said it is investigating and sent condolences, there is no evidence that any vehicle had been accelerating in the manner claimed at the time of the attack.

Tel Rumeida, where Israeli settlers live under heavy military protection among Palestinian residents, has long been a flashpoint for violence. Sam’s funeral took place earlier today.

The U.S. military struck Iranian coastal sites in the early hours of Saturday, launching at least three airstrikes, which they have also released footage of. While we can normally ascertain a series of events from these encounters through on the ground OSINT channels, local reporting and official statements, last night’s exchange is a bit of an unusual affair, as there are serious questions around both official explanations.

It is worth noting before examining last night's events that the U.S. naval blockade of Iranian ports, in place since April 13, has itself been characterised by Iran and independent legal analysts as a violation of the ceasefire terms agreed on April 8. The blockade, which has disabled or redirected over 129 vessels attempting to access Iranian ports, is itself a precursor to the events of last night. We acknowledge that the USA’s blockade consistently breaks the ceasefire agreement, the analysis to follow is aimed at the strikes specifically.

After a night of competing claims, all our attempts to verify those claims have come up short, with some key issues that dispute the claims of why last night’s trade of strikes occurred. The USA claims that they had shot down incoming drones, but there are no on the ground reports of drone launches, which we have never failed to identify in previous incidents.

The IRGC, Iran’s military, says four tankers guided by the U.S. military direction attempted to transit at 1:30 a.m., but we cannot find third-party confirmation of the attempted passage. As with the drone launches, the absence is not conclusive, dark sailing is standard practice in this environment, and the U.S. has confirmed it facilitates undisclosed transits.

We cannot confirm the tankers were there any more than we can confirm the drones were launched. We will simply note that the precedent here is that the U.S. has been the entity to break the ceasefire in each documented exchange, a pattern we have covered across the preceding weeks, while they have a documented policy of guiding ships that would theoretically support Iran’s claims. Iran may also have legal grounding in intervention of ships transiting the Strait.

Iran is not a party to the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) having signed but never ratified it, meaning the treaty’s “transit passage” provisions, which guarantee unimpeded navigation through international straits, do not formally bind Tehran. Iran’s own domestic Maritime Areas Act asserts that foreign vessels require Iranian consent to transit waters it claims jurisdiction over, providing a legal basis for its interdiction policy that is coherent even if contested.

Most international legal scholars do argue that transit passage rights have hardened into customary international law binding on all states regardless of ratification, but Iran’s position is not frivolous, it has a legal foundation, and it is not up to us or the USA to make a claim on the legal realities, that is for the world’s courts to decide. The USA has not taken to the world courts to get a final decision on passage of the Strait.

What we can confirm is that Iranian ballistic missiles were launched toward Kuwait and Bahrain from Fars and Bushehr provinces. Air defense sirens activated in both countries. CENTCOM claims that six out of seven missiles had been intercepted, which is not a claim we can put weight behind without further evidence. This is due to CENTCOM falsely claiming to intercept all incoming attacks in the previous exchange, multiple strikes had been confirmed, disproving their claim within minutes.

U.S. Central Command’s account, posted to X early on June 6 local time, the first statement from either side. They state that four Iranian one-way attack drones launched toward the Strait of Hormuz and were shot down by U.S. forces. CENTCOM then struck “coastal surveillance radar sites” at Goruk and Qeshm Island in response. The drones, it said, “posed an immediate threat to regional maritime traffic.” Iran then fired the ballistic missiles. CENTCOM released unclassified aerial footage of the Goruk and Qeshm strikes.

Iran’s account, when it came three hours later, challenged the USA’s account. The IRGC said four oil tankers operating under U.S. military direction attempted to transit the Strait without authorization at around 1:30 a.m., ignoring IRGC warnings. One was stopped; the others turned back.

U.S. drones then struck telecommunications facilities on Qeshm Island and at Sirik at around 2:30 a.m. The IRGC’s missile barrage was its response to those strikes. Iran’s Foreign Ministry condemned the U.S. actions as violations of the April 9 ceasefire agreement and of the UN Charter’s prohibition on the use of force, stating the attacks were launched from Kuwait and Bahrain.

CENTCOM makes no mention of tankers, while the IRGC insist tankers are central to the issues overnight. Using open source ship tracking software, we have been able to see a pattern indicating at least one ship may have been turned around overnight, we have identified other ships with movements that grabbed our attention, but did not see conclusive evidence they had been turned around. This does not conclusively prove the Iranian position.

The U.S. has been conducting a documented, quiet escort program for select commercial vessels through the Strait for at least two weeks, described by officials as a limited operation distinct from the paused Project Freedom.

On June 5 itself, hours before the exchange, the U.S. was separately blocking Iraqi oil tankers from crossing the Strait over alleged IRGC toll payments, a claim Baghdad denied. The regime was actively managing tanker movement at the chokepoint throughout that day. Whether four tankers were directed toward the Strait that night with U.S. military backing is unconfirmed. What is notable is that no U.S. statement before or after the incident mentions tankers in the Strait at all, while we know they had been active in the management of tanker passage in that time.

The IRGC claimed its missile strikes damaged the U.S. Fifth Fleet headquarters in Bahrain. CENTCOM denied this, posting a “Fact Check” graphic alongside the denial. No satellite imagery of the Bahrain base from June 5-6 has emerged to resolve it either way. Previously, denied claims by CENTCOM had been disproven through satellite imagery, and while we cannot say that won’t happen now, at the time of writing it has not.

In previous reports, we had been forced to challenge the official U.S. account, as the mountain of evidence presented left us with no other choice. We apply the same skepticism to both sides, and for the first time after a trade of strikes between the two, we cannot confirm either claim.

CENTCOM’s track record during this ceasefire period includes categorical denials later proven wrong by satellite evidence, and a consistent framing of every U.S. strike as purely defensive, even when they are either the sole attacker, or the first to attack.

The IRGC has made damage claims that have not held up. What distinguishes this incident is not which side is less credible, it is that the normal markers by which the information environment can be read are absent. The OSINT channels that have tracked Iranian launch activity throughout this conflict produced no ground reporting preceding CENTCOM’s announcement, in every previous instance, on the ground reports of activity preceded official statements. That, however, is not conclusive.

The tanker question has no AIS footprint, this again is not conclusive, as dark operations are normal in this field. Our own look into open source ship mapping software does indicate at least one ship had turned away, but without further clarification, we cannot hold that up as proof.

We’re hoping we can update this article with more clarity later today, and we will continue watching for updates. However, the inability to prove any of the claims indicates that all claims should be disregarded until proof is supplied. Right now, the only evidence we have points to the U.S. strikes initiating the exchange, all claims predating that remain unfounded.

Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, who acts as Hezbollah’s political mediator, said on Friday that the group would withdraw from south of the Litani River, on one condition: that Israel withdraws from the Lebanese territory it occupies at the same time.

It is, by any measure, a straightforward offer. A parallel withdrawal, neither side gets to pocket a concession before the other moves. Berri described it as the basis for “a complete and comprehensive ceasefire without conditions.”

The offer comes in direct response to a deal agreed in Washington on Wednesday, after U.S.-brokered talks between Israeli and Lebanese government delegations. Hezbollah was not invited to the talks. The agreement that emerged required a complete cessation of Hezbollah fire and the evacuation of all its fighters from south of the Litani, while placing no equivalent obligation on Israel to halt its strikes or withdraw its forces. The first Israeli strike came within minutes of the announcement. We counted over 30 more in the following six hours.

Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem rejected it outright, calling it a roadmap to “achieve the enemy’s objectives.” That rejection is being treated in most Western coverage as if it is some reflection of reality. There is no expectation of any actor, state or non-state, to accept a deal that they were not present during the negotiations of.

The Israeli cabinet met to vote on ratification. No vote was held. Netanyahu told ministers the deal would only be brought to them for approval if Hezbollah agreed to it first, a condition he knew was not met. A cabinet that negotiated the deal, agreed its terms, and then declined to ratify it on a technicality it had engineered is not a cabinet that wants a ceasefire. English-speaking sources are not touching this story. There is practically zero coverage of the Knesset’s refusal to ratify the deal signed under their terms.

Meanwhile, the far right inside that cabinet made its position plain. National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir called on Netanyahu to reject the deal entirely. Minister Eli Cohen told colleagues that “a reasonable state would have destroyed them for strikes like these.” The pressure on Netanyahu is not toward peace. It is toward escalation, and he is not resisting it very hard.

Berri, for his part, called the Washington framework “booby-trapped,” and said it should have included an unconditional ceasefire across land, sea, and air. The language is pointed. A ceasefire agreement that allows the occupying military to continue striking while demanding the other side disarm and withdraw is not a ceasefire. It is a surrender document with better branding.

The question now is whether the Berri offer is treated as a serious diplomatic opening or will it be entirely dismissed?

A concrete offer is on the table. What gets done with it will tell you everything you need to know about who actually wants this occupation to end.

Yesterday, the first day of this tracker, we recorded 53 Israeli strikes and 16 Hezbollah responses in Lebanon alone.

We did not include Gaza in that count. We should have, and regret the mistake of not including the Strip in yesterday's count. We are correcting that now, and Gaza will be recorded in daily ceasefire trackers from here on out.

Gaza operates under a different logic entirely than Lebanon, Israeli forces conduct strikes with no opposing military capacity and under conditions of complete aerial surveillance. There are no violations “from the other side” because there is no other side left capable of firing back. The record there runs in one direction only.

The same asymmetry applies in Lebanon, though less absolutely. Hezbollah’s strikes on 4 June were directed, with few exceptions, at Israeli military positions, vehicles, and personnel inside Lebanese territory. Israeli strikes showed no consistent pattern of targeting legitimate military objectives, with all but one of their 53 strikes targeting civilian areas.

Some of the most dangerous things ever done to democracy don’t come from coups or soldiers. They come from legal clauses written to look harmless, but in actuality, they close the seal on authoritarianism. Section 287(g) of the Immigration and Nationality Act is one of them, a line of text that lets ICE hand over federal immigration powers to local police.

It’s an agreement that turns sheriffs into deportation officers, and it’s how a national machine of fear runs through county jails, small-town stations, and traffic stops across the USA.

As of this week, ICE has signed 1,904 Memorandums of Agreement for 287(g) programs covering 39 states and 2 U.S. territories. Nearly 1,904 local forces that have subordinated their own communities to the Trump regime’s enforcement apparatus.

Under 287(g), ICE signs what it calls “Memorandums of Agreement” (MOAs) with local law enforcement agencies. Once signed, local officers are trained by ICE, usually a short course, sometimes just a few weeks, and granted limited authority to perform immigration enforcement functions. They gain access to ICE’s databases, can interrogate people about their citizenship, issue immigration detainers, and prepare charging documents that lead directly to deportation.

ICE doesn’t need to be in the room. The sheriff’s deputies can handle it all. And when someone is wrongfully detained, ICE is offered an out. That wasn’t us, that was a local decision, despite the fact that ICE deputised that local department to make that decision.

What makes the current expansion different from anything before it is money. Under previous administrations, ICE covered training and IT infrastructure, and that was it. Now, the regime is paying full salaries and overtime for trained officers, start-up costs, and "performance" bonuses tied directly to immigration arrests.

Officers are being financially rewarded per detained person. Between 13,800 and 15,800 sheriff's deputies and municipal officers have now been deputised with federal immigration enforcement powers through the Task Force Model alone, more than the total number of new ICE employees hired in the same period. At least $137 million has already been disbursed to local agencies this year, with projections of up to $2 billion more before 2026 is out.

The ACLU's Naureen Shah called it what it is: "We've never seen this financial incentive scheme exist in any way with this program, and Congress never intended for ICE to be swooping in to these local jurisdictions and offering them money in exchange to participate."

In Florida, the state added its own layer: a $250 million pool distributed by the Chief Financial Officer at a press conference in March, where sheriffs posed with oversized novelty checks. This is bounty hunting with a badge, and it's federally funded.

That’s how this program was designed, as a system where federal power hides behind local faces. It’s immigration enforcement without federal accountability. Every agreement creates a local extension of ICE that looks like your police department but acts like a border patrol.

Florida is the clearest example of where this ends up. A state bill signed into law in February 2025 required all county detention facilities to sign 287(g) agreements with ICE by April 2025, with non-complying officials facing removal by the governor and legal action to force compliance. All 67 counties now have a 287(g) agreement in place. Florida is the only state in the country where every county sheriff’s office has signed onto the Task Force Model, the most expansive and aggressive form of the program. Every sheriff in the state. There was no opting out, no community consultation, no democratic check. DeSantis signed it into law and that was that.

Since we first began tracking 287(g) agreements, over 900 extra local agencies have signed on to the agreement, the largest ever increase of agencies signed on to the deal in any one year period.

And this is exactly why The ICE List exists. The ICE List isn’t just tracking federal agents, it’s tracking every piece of this decentralised enforcement network. Because under 287(g), the boundary between a county jail and a federal detention centre no longer exists. They’re connected by database logins, phone calls, and quiet deals. The jailer who holds someone overnight for ICE is just as complicit as the officer who knocks down the door at dawn.

The 287(g) program has been expanded and abused for years. Even after public outrage and court challenges, ICE keeps signing new agreements. The program lives on because it hides behind the language of “public safety,” but the data shows otherwise: most people detained under 287(g) have been charged with minor traffic offences or no crime at all. The only consistent pattern is skin colour.

In communities with 287(g), immigrants stop reporting crimes. Domestic abuse goes unreported. Witnesses vanish. Police lose the trust that keeps neighbourhoods functioning, and fear becomes policy. That’s the point, to make life unlivable, quietly.

So when we publish names on the ICE List, understand: this isn’t about one agency or one set of uniforms. It’s about the network, the counties, the sheriffs, the officers who lend their authority to a system built to dehumanise. Every name added makes the map clearer. Every exposure shows that ICE’s reach depends on local complicity.

287(g) is a colonisation of local law enforcement. It’s how the federal government builds an invisible army out of small-town police. It’s how democracy dies without anyone declaring it, and it’s happening right now, under your nose.

The device detonated at around 10:30 a.m. local time near a pier inside the port. No injuries have been reported.

In a statement, the Romanian Ministry of National Defence said the drone was thought to be “of the type used in the war in Ukraine.” It confirmed the device was not part of the Romanian Army’s inventory and had not been involved in recent military exercises in the Black Sea area.

Ukraine's Navy subsequently confirmed the drone was one of its unmanned surface vessels, which lost control after Russian electronic warfare jamming during operations in the Black Sea operational zone and drifted toward Romanian shores.

The Ukrainian Navy said it proactively shared information with Romanian naval forces once the vessel lost control, with the aim of preventing civilian casualties.

“The area had already been secured and cordoned off by forces from the Romanian Intelligence Service, the Coast Guard, and the Ministry of National Defense; at that time, the object was undergoing assessment and being secured,” the ministry said.

Emergency responders including police, border guards, and firefighters attended the scene. A Black Hawk helicopter was also mobilised.

Romanian President Nicușor Dan said the protection of human life and port infrastructure remained the priority. “Such particularly serious situations are the direct consequences of the war of aggression unleashed by Russia against Ukraine,” he wrote on X.

An investigation is being conducted by the Prosecutor’s Office at the Constanța Court of Appeal.

The incident follows a Russian drone strike on the eastern Romanian city of Galați last week, in which an explosive-laden drone crashed onto the roof of a residential apartment block, injuring two people.

In the first week of March, Israeli special forces were operating from a base inside Iraq. They had been there for some time. The base was secret, the presence was unauthorised, and the Iraqi government had not approved it.

The Wall Street Journal reported this on the 9th of May. The Washington Post confirmed it. A meeting was called in the Iraqi parliament to discuss the base, and a larger diplomatic scandal hit the country as a result.

In early March a sheperd saw helicopters where there should have been nothing, and he told the Iraqi military. Three regiments from the Karbala Operations Command were sent to look, and were met with airstrikes. One Iraqi soldier was killed, two were wounded, and by later accounts the shepherd who raised the alarm did not survive either.

A foreign military crossed into another country, established itself on that country’s land, and used lethal force against that country’s soldiers to avoid being discovered. International law has a word for this activity, a word the western press wouldn't use: invasion. UN Resolution 3314, the international definition of aggression, opens with the invasion or attack by the armed forces of one state of the territory of another, “or any military occupation, however temporary.”

However temporary. A patch of desert held by special forces clears the bar on the first line. The killing clears it twice over. The Western press, given the same facts, reached for words like “outpost” in an attempt not to use the word invasion. Offering Israel that out for international crimes that we are so used to seeing.

We have since learned, there was not just one illegal military base, Israel built two. The New York Times reported on the 17th of May that a second installation predated the current war and was used during last June’s strikes on Iran, with planning going back to late 2024.

U.S. officials told the Journal that Washington was not involved, while the Journal‘s own sources confirmed Washington knew. A senior official in the outgoing Iraqi prime minister’s office told The New Arab the operation ran “with American assistance and under American cover.”

None of this is new behaviour. The 2011 Strategic Framework Agreement between the two governments exists precisely to forbid the unauthorised use of Iraqi soil and airspace, and in October 2024 Baghdad protested to the UN Security Council after Israeli jets used that airspace to strike Iran. The protest produced no change and no public response. The desert base is the same contempt at higher intensity, this time with troops on the ground, along with bodies of their victims in the sand.

When the first report on this military base appeared on May 9, it spread like wildfire, and for two days, the news was everywhere. Then, after two days, the story disappeared and no one cared anymore. The NYT report informing the public of the second base got very little wider attention, and then the story went to the back of everyone’s mind.

It is clear at this point that the silence is not an accident. Look at who benefits from the story dying and you find everyone. The war is over and the base is no longer operational, which allows editors file an active sovereignty violation as something more historical, despite one of the bases being part of the ongoing war against Iran, and the other used in last year’s attack on Iran.

An allied military, armed and supplied by the West, invaded a sovereign nation with the West’s knowledge, and the Western press that broke the story walked away from it inside a fortnight.

The story disappeared from headlines because it was inconvenient. To Iraq, it is not inconvenient, it is a slap in the face to their sovereignty, and to the rest of us, it’s not convenient that two countries continue to get a free pass from the press.

Play a mental game, reverse the actors. Imagine a foreign army building a base in the United States and bombing U.S. soldiers who stumbled on it. That story would not have a half-life. It would have a permanent desk, and almost certainly a fire and fury style invasion of the country behind it, alongside a decade of occupation and war crimes.

Iraq felt that before, in 2003, when the western press amplified the case for the invasion rather than questioned it. Some habits never die.

Since the U.S.-Israeli attack on Iran in late February, launching a war that seems to have no end in sight, a pattern has repeated with enough regularity that we must address it. Axios publishes a report, citing anonymous U.S. officials, claiming a ceasefire or deal with Iran is imminent. Iranian officials deny it, sometimes within hours. The key part of this, is that each time, the financial markets move as a result of the latest Axios report. Weeks later, the cycle repeats.

The denial of Axios reports receives a fraction of the coverage in the wider media sphere, with mentions of the Iranian position almost always limited to Al Jazeera and independent outlets such as Crust News. Axios does not publish corrections when their reports are debunked by state actors, nor would they issue corrections in subsequent misreporting, even when the pattern of inaccurate reports had become clear. When we asked about this, Axios declined to address the question.

All four reports were written by the same reporter, Barak Ravid, an Israeli journalist who served approximately six years in the IDF, including in Unit 8200, the military's signals intelligence division, before a career in diplomatic journalism that brought him to Axios, where he covers the Middle East exclusively through the lens of U.S. and Israeli sources. Axios describes him as 'one of the most talented reporters of his generation,' working sources seven days a week.

Iran’s parliament speaker Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf addressed the clear pattern, calling the outlet’s inaccurate reporting “Operation Fauxios”, combining the outlet’s name with the French word for false.

“Operation Trust Me Bro failed,” he posted on X in May. “Now back to routine with Operation Fauxios.” An Iranian foreign affairs committee spokesperson was blunter, calling the Axios reports “more of an American wish list than a reality.”

We are inclined to agree. Here is the documented record:

March 4. Axios reported that Iran had sent messages to the U.S. regime over the preceding days. Iran denied it the same day. “No message has been sent from Iran to the U.S., nor will any response be given to U.S. messages,” an Iranian official told Tasnim news agency. “Iran’s armed forces have prepared themselves for a long war.” A ceasefire did not arrive until five weeks after this report.

April 5. Axios reported that the U.S., Iran, and regional mediators were pushing for a 45-day ceasefire framework, citing four unnamed U.S., Israeli, and regional sources. Reuters said it could not verify the report. Iran rejected the framework. Market manipulation claims surfaced within 24 hours, with financial analysts publicly questioning the timing of trades placed ahead of the report’s market impact. Three days later, Pakistan brokered a peace plan on Iran’s terms, the terms outlined by Axios never appeared, leading to serious questions about the reliability of the source.

May 6-7. Axios reported the U.S. was close to a “one-page deal” with Iran, that Iran would respond within 48 hours, and that this was “the closest the two sides had come to a deal since the war began.” Iran denied it. Ghalibaf coined “Fauxios.” Trump then cited the Axios report to claim the U.S. had had “good talks over the last 24 hours”, using the report to validate his own claims, creating a closed loop in which Axios sourced U.S. officials and U.S. officials cited Axios. No deal followed this report.

May 28. Axios reported a 60-day memorandum of understanding had been reached. Markets rallied. Bloomberg confirmed the rally was driven by the report. Reuters confirmed an MOU existed but that Trump had not approved it, and noted, with admirable understatement, that the regime had “several times said a deal to end the fighting was close, only to have Iran dispute or downplay the claims.” The deal that had been “reached“ according to Axios is still yet to be signed at the time of publication.

In each case, the source was anonymous U.S. officials. In each case, Iran was not a confirming party. In each case, no correction followed the denial.

Anonymous sourcing exists in journalism to protect people who take personal risk to bring information to the public. It is not supposed to function as a frictionless pipeline for regime messaging, a mechanism by which officials who would be embarrassed to put their names to optimistic claims about stalled negotiations can nonetheless move markets with those claims, consequence-free, through a compliant outlet.

By the second report, the pattern was already visible. A source that had proven wrong once, on a claim with material market consequences, was being published again, this time claiming to have knowledge of the terms of the deal. Those terms never materialised in the deal that followed. That should have disqualified the source from further attribution. It did not.

When asked whether Axios has any policy on anonymous sourcing for market-sensitive reporting, the outlet's Director of Editorial Communications, Jake Wilkins, said only that Ravid is 'held to the same ethical standards as every reporter at Axios.' If the four inaccurate reports documented here are the standard, that answer raises serious questions about the standards held at Axios.

The question of who benefits is not difficult to answer. Every time Axios published, oil prices fell and equity markets rose on ceasefire optimism. The supposed source of the reporting and the political beneficiary of the market movement are the same entity, the Trump regime.

The Anti-Corruption Data Collective, a nonprofit research group, analysed all 435,672 markets settled on Polymarket between January 2021 and mid-March 2026, covering $54.4 billion in wagers. It found that longshot bets in military and defence markets win 51.8% of the time, against a 14% baseline across all categories.

Nine linked accounts were separately identified by blockchain analytics firm Bubblemaps as having generated $2.4 million from Iran war bets at a reported 98% win rate. Federal investigators are reviewing large oil futures trades placed on March 23, the morning traders put more than $800 million on declining oil prices minutes before Trump posted on Truth Social that Iran talks had been “very good and productive.” Oil fell more than 10%.

None of this proves Axios reporters knew their reporting was being used this way. What it does show is the real-world effects of reporting that proved false, regardless of intent. The fact that this was repeated again and again, by the same reporter, at the same outlet, is the central problem here. Four reports that shift the market, and no corrections from Axios, no accountability for the journalist who wrote each piece, and no attempt to incorporate the Iranian side in future claims.

What it looks like from here is an outlet that has allowed itself to become a vehicle for anonymous regime messaging, published without verification, with material consequences for global markets, and no mechanism for accountability when the claims prove false. Three times might be a pattern. A fourth is a choice. You don't need to believe there was coordination to see the problem.

Crust News put the following questions to Axios:

1. Does Axios have a comment on the pattern, and has the outlet taken any steps to address it?

2. Does Axios have any policy on the use of anonymous sourcing for reporting that is demonstrably market-sensitive, particularly where the named subject of the reporting is not a confirming party?

3. Has there been any internal review of the sourcing or editorial process behind these reports? Any repercussions for the reporter?

4. Will Axios continue to publish Barak Ravid’s reporting based on the same anonymous U.S. sources, given that those sources have provided claims Iran has publicly contradicted on at least four separate occasions, each time with measurable financial consequences?

5. In future reporting on Iran ceasefire or peace deal claims, will Axios commit to representing the Iranian position within the same piece, rather than leaving denial and contradiction to be reported elsewhere or not at all?

Lebanon and Israel have been operating under a supposed “ceasefire”framework since April 2026, extended multiple times under U.S. mediation. On 4 June 2026, a further agreement was announced in Washington following four rounds of direct talks. The Lebanese president said implementation could begin within 24 hours, while Hezbollah, who had not been invited to the talks, rejected the terms the same day.

No ceasefire has meaningfully halted the fighting. Israeli forces have continued to strike targets across southern Lebanon and the Bekaa Valley throughout. Hezbollah has continued to respond to Israeli. A UN peacekeeper was killed on the night the latest agreement was announced.

As a result of the consistent failed ceasefires, and the fact that an invading army is the main culprit for the failures, we will now have a daily “tracker” of violations.

This tracker records confirmed violations of the existing ceasefire framework from 4 June 2026. It exists to provide a transparent public record of how the agreement is being handled by all parties. The count at the top of each day’s record reflects confirmed incidents and is a minimum figure, and represent the attacks that have been reported at the time of the most recent update. This piece is accurate as of Midnight June 4 and can be treated as a full accounting of today’s ceasefire breaches. Violations for June 5th will be published at first midway through the day, and will be finalised at midnight.

After four rounds of talks at the U.S. State Department, Israel and Lebanon announced a ceasefire on Wednesday night. By Thursday morning, Israeli warplanes had struck more than twenty-five locations across southern Lebanon. The Lebanese president was telling the press that implementation might begin within 24 hours, and that the agreement was Lebanon’s “last chance.”

The deal, brokered under American auspices and announced around 1am Beirut time, is conditional on a complete cessation of fire by Hezbollah and the withdrawal of its forces south of the Litani River. The U.S. State Department announced simultaneously that Israel retains the freedom to strike Beirut in response to any firing toward Israeli settlements. The Israeli Defence Minister confirmed his forces would remain in Lebanon’s south until the Yellow Line, that a demilitarised zone would be established south of the Litani, and that Israel would “continue to target Hezbollah’s infrastructure in Lebanon.”

None of that is a ceasefire. That is a list of Israeli military objectives. Hezbollah cited this directly in rejecting the agreement, stating that any ceasefire must mean a cessation of hostilities across all of Lebanon.

Hezbollah maintains that they retain the right to respond to continued Israeli aggression, a position with significant grounding in international law. UN Charter Article 51 preserves the right of self-defence against armed attack, and UN General Assembly Resolution 3314 explicitly protects the right of peoples to resist domination and occupation from outside forces. Israel's continued military presence in Lebanese territory, in violation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701, strengthens the group’s argument.

With strikes continuing across Lebanon, even minutes after the ceasefire was announced, it’s clear that the attacks from Israel show no end, and therefore, Hezbollah’s responses will also continue. The loose language of the ceasefire dooming the agreement before ink dried on the document.

The asymmetry of the agreement is not incidental. It is the agreement. Lebanon is being asked to guarantee the behaviour of Hezbollah, a non-state actor the Lebanese state does not control, as a precondition for Israel stopping its bombardment. Israel, meanwhile, has reserved for itself the unilateral right to determine whether those conditions have been met, and to respond with force if it decides they have not.

Lebanese President Joseph Salam described the negotiations as “difficult,” noting they nearly collapsed before U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio intervened to keep the Lebanese delegation at the table.

Lebanon almost walked out of talks it needed more than Israel did, in a negotiation it entered with no leverage and left with no guarantee of protection. Lebanon has no ability to fight back against Israel as there is an extreme gap between the military capabilities of the two.

By the time the announcement was made, Israeli warplanes had already struck Al-Ghaziyah in southern Lebanon at approximately 1:10am, minutes before the ceasefire was formally declared, and presumably, after most negotiations had concluded. Strikes continued through the night and into Thursday morning, we counted at least twenty-five strikes across Nabatiyah, Tyre, Jezzine, and the western Bekaa region. The IDF reiterated evacuation warnings for all residents south of the Zahrani River. The Golani Brigade established what the Israeli army described as operational control over the Shebaa Farms.

Over twenty-five attacks, a forced evacuation order, seizing of territory. These are not signs of a ceasefire.

Israel’s ambassador to Washington announced the ceasefire and added, in the same breath, that there is no place in Lebanon safe from an Israeli response. Setting the expectations that there will be no cessation of hostilities, as would be implied by announcement of a ceasefire.

Amid all of this, a UN peacekeeper has been killed in a strike. Serbian Senior Sergeant Milovan Jovanovic was killed after mortar shells struck his UNIFIL position near Marjayoun on Wednesday night. Two UNIFIL colleagues had also been wounded. UNIFIL has launched an investigation and has not yet assigned blame, but they have condemned both Israel and Hezbollah for repeated strikes near their positions.

What it has noted is an “increasingly high number of trajectories and impacts” across southern Lebanon. UNIFIL itself is due to wind down its mission by the end of 2026, leaving a peacekeeping vacuum in a region where the current ceasefire is already not holding.

Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir called the agreement “a grave mistake” and “a fantasy.” On this specific point, the evidence this morning suggests he may be the most accurate voice in the room, though not for the reasons he intends.

The Lebanese Armed Forces have deployed along the Dabbin road following an Israeli withdrawal from Dabbin and Blat, and the Marjayoun-Dabbin-Ibl al-Saqi route has begun reopening. Lebanese President Salam has said he is awaiting responses from “all relevant internal parties, especially Hezbollah.” The next round of negotiations is scheduled for June 22.

Between now and June 22, the bombs will continue to fall. That is not a prediction. It is what is happening right now.
